Middle Tennessee Medical Center hosts local teachers for 'in surgery' day
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- June 24, 2013 -- Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) and the Business Education Partnership Foundation’s BC3 Academy hosted a teacher “in surgery” event June 19 allowing Rutherford County teachers access to state-of-the-art surgery equipment.
The Business, Community and Classroom Connections Academy of Math/Science Study Enhancement or BC3 Academy is part of a week-long summer program that allows math, science and vocational teachers in grades 4-12 the opportunity to learn from college educators and business professionals about the latest developments in math and science research and careers.
Five teachers from four Rutherford County schools toured MTMC’s robotic surgery suite, operating room and cancer center, as well as received a hands-on robotic surgery demonstration from the hospital’s chief of surgery.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to share the great work of our hospital with area educators,” said Graham Russell, director of surgical and invasive services at MTMC. “We only hope that the information we pass along will be helpful in their efforts to inspire young doctors and scientists in their classrooms.”
