How do you know if you have a urinary tract infection (UTI)? Dr. Kristina McCain, gynecologist with Saint Thomas Health, helps identify some of the most common symptoms of a UTI.

  1. A strong, persistent urge to urinate.
  2. A burning sensation when urinating or passing frequent, small amounts of urine.
  3. Urine that appears cloudy.
  4. Urine that appears red, bright pink or cola-colored — a sign of blood in the urine.
  5. Strong-smelling urine.
  6. Pelvic pain, in women.
