Back to school: 4 healthy lunch ideas

For many families, it’s that time of the year again… time to return to that sometimes exhausting task of making and packing school lunches. Looking for some healthy ideas? Try some of these.

  • Sandwiches – There is a seemingly never-ending list of combinations you can stick between two slices of bread. Start with whole grain slices, to help keep blood sugar levels stable. 
  • Soup – Especially heading in to the fall and winter months, soup is a wonderful healthy option. Make a batch at home, send your child to school with some in a thermos, and freeze the rest for later.   
  • Pita – An alternative to sandwiches, you can stuff pita with nearly anything – tuna, turkey, egg salad and more. 
  • Dessert – Just because desserts are sweet, doesn’t mean they don’t have to be healthy. Swap out the standard chocolate chip cookie with ginger snaps and those sugary vanilla cupcakes with carrot cake cupcakes.
