Keep smiling: 5 tips to prevent gingivitis.

A smile is often considered as one of the most beautiful features a person can have. But a case of gingivitis can turn a smile into a frown.

Gingivitis is caused by bacterial plaque that is left on the tooth surface. This bacterial plaque may cause the beginning of an infection in the gum tissues. This infection is evident by the gums becoming red, swollen, and even bleeding upon stimulation. Gingivitis is the beginning of the destructive process known as Periodontal Disease, which destroys the gum and supporting bone around your teeth.

Keep your smile healthy! Dr. Mark B. Whaley with Aesthetic and General Dentistry suggest the following to help prevent Gingivitis:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day
  • Use an antiseptic mouthwash
  • Use Dental Floss daily
  • Avoid surgery snacks
  • Visit your dentist regularly
