Are you allergic? 8 most common food allergies

Tired of feeling sick every time you eat a chocolate chip cookie? Maybe it’s time to investigate potential food allergens. Lori Black, nutritionist at Saint Thomas West Hospital suggests considering the following:

The following foods account for approximately 90% of all allergic reactions related to food:

  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Soy
  • Wheat

If you find out you suffer from any of these food allergies, don’t fret too much! There are plenty of alternatives out there. Instead of milk from a cow, try almond or coconut milk. Instead of eggs, try unsweetened applesauce or tofu (depending on what you’re cooking). Instead of wheat, try gluten free flour. There are plenty more alternatives out there, and it may take a few trials to find that perfect flavor for you. But don’t let food allergens keep you from enjoying the tasty life!
