Local Students Chosen for TRP Star Scholarship Program Through Saint Thomas Health and TRP Partnership

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—(March 11, 2014)—Saint Thomas Health, along with other Middle Tennessee organizations, is proud to announce the recipients of the 2014 TRP STAR Program.

The Tennessee Rural Partnership Saint Thomas Award Recipient (TRP STAR) Program is the result of collaboration between Tennessee Rural Partnership (TRP), the Tennessee State Department of Education, HOSA-Future Health Professionals and Saint Thomas Health. The program awards $500 scholarships to health science high school juniors and seniors and allows participants to shadow a physician for up to eight hours.

Saint Thomas Health has supported this award yearly, since the inception of the Health Resources and Services Administrations’ Workforce Development Grant, focused on improving the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in rural communities.

The 2014 TRP STAR recipients include:

  • Jennifer Davis; Cherokee High School in Rogersville
  • Kandice Finnegan; Cheatham County High School in Ashland City
  • Morgan Ann Reeves; Crockett County High School in Alamo

These recipients will be honored at their high school’s awards day ceremony.

TRP is a private non-profit organization established in 2006 to address the increasing challenges of providing healthcare in rural and underserved areas across the state. The TRP STAR Program is one of many ways TRP builds a pipeline of health care professionals that return to practice in their rural communities, with the goal of developing adequate health care workforces in rural Tennessee.
