Know the warning signs of a stroke? Know FAST.

Did you know stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States? Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be. Between fast action upon the onset of stroke symptoms and taking general preventative measures, we can drive down the number of lives strokes take on an annual basis.

Think someone may be having a stroke? Use the FAST acronym to help remember the warning signs:

Face – Ask the person to smile, watching to see if one side of the face droops.

Arms – Ask the person to raise both arms. Observe whether one arms drifts downwards.

Speech – Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Is his/her speech slurred?

Time – Time is of the essence. If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1 immediately.
