Medical Mission at Home

The foot washing station focuses on two things: foot care and personal connections. Most volunteers will be participating in the actual foot washing. Each patient typically stays for twenty to thirty minutes. Aside from the actual washing process, volunteers are encouraged to get to know their patients. The goal is to touch the patients on a more personal level through this act of service, rather than simply cleaning their feet.

Triage is the first area patients come to after registration. EVERY patient is triaged. Volunteers need to have a strong clinical background and feel comfortable assessing patients for needs. A health history and basic assessment is done and need for resources assessed. Nurses and Paramedics are preferred. Previous work in mission triage is helpful!

Patients are screened and provided with a pair of appropriate glasses. This area is extremely busy, ideally utilizing volunteers with clinical experience.

Providers needed for Medical assessment/primary care, Lab interpretation/patient education/intervention, Radiology patient education/intervention, Foot washing wound assessment/education, Chronic disease education (esp. diabetes/CHF).

Checking out of patients; making follow up appointments with STMP practice locations as needed & matching patient needs/geography with our STMP locations; if STMP is not appropriate fit for patient connecting them with Charity Clinic instead (usually in attendance); connecting patients with Social Services if missed during Mission navigation; collecting all pertinent paperwork for record archiving; ensuring patient leaves with appropriate paperwork for them; reconciling numbers for various Mission stations and compiling electronic tallies throughout Mission; any other "fillers" as needed throughout day; typically breaks down and helps clean up, even outside of our station; stays till last patient leaves the event.

Schedulers MUST have Athena privileges and be STMP versed for providers & locations (needs to be STMP Associates). Navigators need no particular skill – other than good people skills. Translator/Bi-lingual is a huge plus, to communicate with patients to close their visit.

Navigator/Patient Flow – Volunteers needed to assist with parking, assisting patients from one area to another, line control, interacting/engaging with patients, maintaining operational flow of event.

Volunteers in registration are responsible for greeting patients, communicating services available, and completing the registration packet. Additional volunteers are needed to walk patients to the triage area.

Pray with patients as needed – walk among the patients and provide spiritual care

Assistance with on-site meals (volunteers and/or patients), assistance also needed to bag and distribute food at discharge
